In 2019, social entrepreneur Amy Webb decided to open her travel agency Egypt Bucket List after a life-changing experience traveling to the country for her wedding. Born in Caroline from the south to Egyptian immigrants, Webb said she opened her travel agency to ensure tourists enjoy Egypt’s holiest places with safety and peace of mind.
“I first went to Egypt when I was 33. That’s when my life changed based on my experience there. I was shocked to learn The history of Egypt and how the ancients lived over 4000 years ago. Everything was sacred, pristine and intentional. My first experience allowed me to bring more people to Egypt, so they could experience the same thing I witnessed. Take a unique journey through Egypt and learn from our the ancestors can change lives forever,” Amy Webb told Travel Noire.
Since then, Webb has developed a strong passion for Egypt. She has created an alliance between the country and the United States through travel, and this first black woman-owned travel brand offers ease and safety in traveling to Egypt’s most sacred places.
“We have taken many African-American travelers to Egypt, where this is actually their first visit to the motherland. I have seen people completely blown away by the history they discover that is not taught in schools. Egypt was a land of Pharos, queens and royalty, and it’s important for black travelers to know that history and where they came from,” Webb said.
The entrepreneur claimed that Bucket List Egypt has Egyptologists who share ancient Egyptian stories from a black history perspective, as she found that many people over the years have tried a Eurocentric perspective while traveling in Egypt. with completely inaccurate vision.
The Bucket List Egypt founder said her travel company is also working on a mission to transform the narrative and negative assumptions about travel in the Middle East. Webb mentioned that she has found that so many people want to come and visit countries like Egypt, but unfortunately there has been a negative stigma in the media that countries in the Middle East or Africa are not probably not safe to travel, according to her. .
“I realized from my own experience that it really is about planning your trip in the right way before visiting. A country like Egypt has so much to offer, but it requires careful and detailed planning. This is one of the reasons why we launched Bucket List Egypt with my partners, Karim Refaat and Bassem Yassa. Our goal is to keep travelers safe and create an incredible itinerary for travel enthusiasts to enjoy all aspects of their trip stress-free,” said Amy Webb.
She said her goal now is to help revive Egypt’s tourism sector as the country tries to ride out the shock of the pandemic. With this current international scenario, the Egyptian economy faces an unprecedented challenge in attracting visitors. For this reason, Webb announced that she has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism, the Egyptian government and several organizations to help tourism in Egypt.
Webb explained that Bucket List Egypt is different from other travel brands because it doesn’t have a single package.
“We co-create with clients and curate bespoke packages based on what they are looking for. What’s great about traveling to Egypt is that there’s so much more to do than just history. Of course, the historic sites are not to be missed, but most people don’t know that some of the most beautiful beaches, marine life, etc. are found in Egypt.
For those who enjoy spirituality and mental well-being, Webb said the company offers wellness retreats.
“There is desert camping, beautiful hiking and an incredible food and nightlife scene in Cairo. There is something to do for everyone. We strive to create an unforgettable experience based on everyone’s background and interests,” she concluded.
